Palm Beach to Sarasota -FL

We need ideas for interesting things to see or do and possibly a fun place for lunch when driving from Palm Beach to Sarasota for a visit. We are going in late December, are two adults, and plan to drive more or less straight across.

Google Maps shows this as a trip of between 3:15 and 3:45 depending on your route, so if it is a day trip, you aren't going to have time to sight see on the way. You will mostly pass through agricultural land if you go north of Lake Okeechobee. There are only two size able towns, Okeechobee and Arcadia. I have been to the latter, and it did not seem like much unless you are a farmer.

You may go by Naples route it will be much longer drive but in this route lots of great places to eat in Naples itself. This route passes mostly through swamp, then agricultural land in the process of becoming subdivisions. If this is a multi-day trip, there are various natural attractions, Naples has museums and shopping, and Ft Myers has the Edison and Ford cottages, which are fascinating.

I have some knowledge about it which I heard from my aunt, Peninsular Florida is the southeasternmost U.S. state, with the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other.
