  • Spain Tomato Festival

Spain Tomato Festival began in 1945; the time is the last Wednesday in August every year. It is the one of the most famous festivals in the world.
According to the legend, one day, a band of this city swaggers through the streets with the trumpet. At this time, a group of young people suddenly grab the tomatoes to the microphone into each other, and see who can throw tomatoes into it. This is the origin of Tomato Festival.
The same as the bullfighting Festival, Tomato Festival is also the Spanish famous traditional festival; the festival usually lasts for a week. At this time of every year, tourists from around the world gathered in the town of Buniaoer( also called Bunol), and celebrated this unique festival with the local residents. What the tomatoes give people is not only the joy of harvest but also carnival.
At noon on 12 o’clock, the people who were waiting at the people’s square and the nearly streets, rushed to the 6 trucks that filled with tomatoes, grabbed these “red bullet” to familiar or unfamiliar people. An hour later, the fighters were spending themselves out, then the “tomatoes war” ended.
The war was end, but the activity was continued. The people of this city and tens of thousands of volunteers put all water tap open, they all have invested in another battle——clean the street. About an hour later, the entire square and streets are clean up, The Buniaoer city resumed usual quiet.
