Try to eat dog meat in Viet Nam
Vietnamese food is very attractive with foreign tourist with many delicacies such as: spring roll, roasted fish, Noodle, banana salad etc….
Do you ever try to eat the dog meat in your country?
I am not sure what it is about western cultures who figures it is ok to eat pig, cow and other animals but dogs are off limits because they decided a long time ago that they are our friends.
In Viet Nam cultures Dog meat is considered a delicacy. You will be very surprised; when you see Vietnamese people enjoy the tender flesh and enjoy the good luck that eating dog meat brings.
Businessmen in particular eat dog meat for good fortune. They usually eat dog meat in the second half of month. This is a food for the relatively affluent though as dog meat is very expensive compared to other food. Dog meat is believed to warm the body and therefore among hill tribes where it is colder dog meat is popular.
Restaurants are readily found all over Vietnam (Look for the word "cho" marked on the restaurant) but you only will find restaurants during the second half of the month. Eating Dog meat the first half of the month brings bad luck so the restaurants only open two weeks every month (Maybe that’s partly why they are expensive). Luck improves as the month progresses and particularly the last day of the month brings the best luck - so you will find packed “ cho “restaurants toward the end of the month.
And have much kind of dishes made from dog meat:
• Rượu mận - Steamed dog meat with shrimp paste, rice flour, and lemongrass
• Giềng mẻ Mắm Tôm - Steamed dog in shrimp paste, galangal, and rice vinegar
• Thịt Chó hấp - Steamed dog meat
• Thịt Chó Nướng - Grilled dog meat
• Dồi Chó - Dog sausage
• Chó Xào Sả Ớt - Fried dog in lemongrass and chili
• Canh Xáo Măng Chó - Bamboo and dog meat soup
One thing is very special in Viet Nam, when they eat dog meat; people are usually drink the rice wine (the wine made from the rice) and never eat the dog meat with beer.
When traveling you want to try new food delicacies and experience local cultures that are different and new to you. This is one food delicacy that should certainly meet those criteria for you.
