If your're in East-Africa, fed-up with safari and you just feel like finding yourself a real chilled-out, back-in-time paradise island, go to Lamu in Kenya. You should stay away from Mombasa, unless you want african disco with prostitutes and old, western buyers.
Lamu is not touristic as Zanzibar and Mombasa, but it's just as nice. It's cheaper and you will not be hasseled by local "businessmen". The peole living here are just as relaxed as you want to be, and they serve the best fruitjuice in the world!!
You can go there by small planes, but if you have time enough, and the situation allows you to; go by local bus.
I definitly want to go back there one sweet day!!
