Judgment of expensive or inexpensive depends upon the pocket size. However whole Japan offers so much to the tourists that Japan tour can't be called expensive. Yes, comparatively to other countries, it is expensive.

Tokyo is an expensive city. I visited almost seven or eight times there.

It is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan.Twenty-six cities lie within the western part of Tokyo. The far west is occupied by the district of Nishitama. Much of this area is mountainous and unsuitable for urbanization. The highest mountain in Tokyo, Mount Kumotori, is 2,017 m high.

Tokyo has numerous outlying islands. There are several national parks within Tokyo.

Tokyo is one of the three world finance "command centers", along with New York and London. Tokyo has the largest metropolitan economy in the world.Tokyo is a major international finance center, houses the headquarters of several of the world's largest investment banks and insurance companies, and serves as a hub for Japan's transportation, publishing, and broadcasting industries.

Tokyo has many universities, junior colleges, and vocational schools. Many of Japan's most prestigious universities are in Tokyo. It has many museums.Sports in Tokyo are diverse.

As the largest population center in Japan and the location of the country's largest broadcasters and studios, Tokyo is frequently the setting for many Japanese movies, television shows, animated series

Architecture in Tokyo has largely been shaped by Tokyo's history.Tourism in Tokyo is a contributor to the economy.

    Default Tokyo expensive city?

Tokyo has knocked Moscow off the top spot as the world's most expensive city for expatriates, a survey suggests.

The strengthening yen meant the Japanese capital now had the highest cost of living, followed by Osaka, said data firm Mercer.

A weaker pound pushed London, the third most expensive city in 2008, to 16th.

The survey is aimed at firms thinking of sending workers abroad and looks at more than 200 factors, including the cost of housing, transport and food.

The index uses New York as its benchmark for living costs.Johannesburg was the cheapest of the 143 cities surveyed, driven by the sharp decline of the South African rand against the US dollar.

However, the BBC's Jonah Fisher in Johannesburg says that for local residents, costs are rising, with even basics such as bread becoming more expensive.

Meanwhile in Japan, the BBC's Roland Buerk said that Tokyo's top slot in the ranking would not surprise locals, who could find themselves paying $15 for a watermelon and $25 for a mango.
