Thread: Tours of Italy

Has anyone ever gone on an extensive tour of Italy? If so, can you share the positives and negatives of it?

I want to advise everyone who is going to visit Rome, and it's monuments, that it is really better to book the entrances to the museums in advance, since lines up for instance Vatican Museums takes normally 3 hours. I have really great experience with http://romastar.eu, I have visited with them borghese gallery for private ( there was no one into museum), and i really enjoyed the all evening, we had a guide and also a little dinner at the end.

We've traveled a lot in Italy: we've seen Venice (beautiful city!), Rome (several times) and the region of Lazio, Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Genova, Sienna, Naples and so on. We've visited all these places on several differnt holidays and city trips. I don't think I would travel through Italy extensively. I'm afraid you just see and experience too many different things (cuisine, art, landscape, people etc.) in a relatively short period.. That's why we always choose a destination and try to see there as much as possible. We did a Lazio tour for instance, a Tuscany tour etc.

Next year (maybe in May) we will visit Sicily. I've read that it's half the size of The Netherlands, so we probably do just a East-Sicily or a West-Sicily tour. Not sure which one yet, but we are looking forward to seeing the island.

I have been twice in Rome and I think one of the best way to visit this city in Italy is to avoid too expensive hotels. I decided to rent an apartment with Leonhouses Holiday Apartments and it has been a good right choice both times, once I was near Vatican and the second one in Trastevere.The apartments were lovely and the atmosphere great.
I guess it would be the same in Florence or Venice for this kind of trips.

Rome is a wonderful place and is quite difficult visit it , is worth having guide or taking the double decker buses the panoramic is more convenient.
