Default wikipedia and travel destinations - 08-24-2007, 12:47 PM

I have been reading on wikipedia for the last hour, lots and lots of good information about destinations and locations. The information is pretty compact and i can only read for about an hour at a time otherwise im getting kinda unfocused. But good info i must say.

wikipedia is great for many things and as a knowledge database for just about everything you can imagine. What comes on my mind is especially travel and tourism related subjects.

I am leery about using wiki for pretty much anything because the content has a tendency to be completely inaccurate at time

I would not use Wikipedia as the ultimate resource on ANYthing because it's user-edited. However, it is a good starting point and I find most of its info is right on.

Wikipedia is a very powerful site I think.
Last night I was searching for different places to visit. Most of the time you enter a city in google the wikipedia page for that city shows into the first page.

Wikipedia is great, but keep in mind that the latest version of a page is not always the best because of spam. Also the information is not primarily targetted at travellers, there are other Wiki-based sites for this, e.g. Wikitravel - which is meant to provide user-edited guides that can be printed out.
