  • India for overlander and backpackers

The thing you see may be interesting but it is the people that make the overland trip, whether they are the people whose villages you are passing through, or you fellow travelers. For perhaps obvious regions a cross sections of overlands seem to be a whole lot more interesting than across section of their general population. You always find interesting people and the friends one makes on the road are one of the real pleasures of travel. Usually you find yourself part of larger group as you travel, so doesn’t worry about starting out of your own. Two is still the ideal number for travelling but a larger group often has adventures you can bargain for group rates at hotels for example- despite the fact that overlanders are now and everyday sight and no longer and object of curiosity along most of the route, you will still find that the local people often go out of there way to be helpful. If you are natural and friendly towards them, they will be nice right back. Of course there are the rip- off merchants who have popped up is some places. You can’t fight it- a little acorn and some restrained anger helps.

When people try to communicate, respond. It may get a little boring often the thousandth “what do you think of our country and where are you from?” but I t is those person to person contacts you will remember long after the temples and places have faded away.
