Thread: What do you think of Russia

just wanted to ask people's opinion about Russia, what are the things that you associate with this country? is it dangerous in terms of travel, what is worth visitng, etc...
Im thinking about visiting this in the nearby future, dont know when yet, but I want to get some ideas before I go

It's a beautiful place to visit...I never got a chance to go there,but i will definately go there in my upcoming vacations...In russia there are many places like Moscow,St. Petersburg and River Cruise...

I live in Russia, in Moscow. I must say about the security: in big cityes dangerous no more than other major European cities. If you do not look for trouble, you'll be fine. Even the pickpockets in the metro is less than in Rome or Paris.
I think there are a lot of interesting things - Moscow, St. Petersburg, Golden Ring. It is in the European part of Russia. And then there is Lake Baikal, Altai, Kamchatka.
It all depends on your preferences. And as always, all the fun is not in tourist areas. There are so many interesting places, which, however, are not known to tourists. For example, the small towns of 100-150 km from Moscow. For example, Kalyazin - a small town on the Volga river, but there is a wonderful old bell tower, which is located right in the middle of the Volga.
The cost: it seems to me that Russia is quite expensive country for tourists (can be inexpensive unless you go to his friends). It is not very large selection of hotels.
