Default El Salvador Travel Information - 03-08-2008, 10:57 PM

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and would just like to introduce myself and offer myself as a reference for El Salvador.
My name is Robert Broz Moran, I was born and lived most of my life in the SF bay area of California. In 1994 I moved to El Salvador where I have lived since that time. I currently live in the small colonial town of Suchitoto, in the center part of the country.
My work as field director for social, communal and educational development projects for the Palo Alto Friends Meeting has given me the opportunity to discover much of thye country. I do manage a travel page in English and Spanish(in my signature) this site I started when I realized how little information about El Salvador can be found in English on the web. I also realized that many of the hidden places, communal, ruarl and natural areas have no information on the web so I have made the site interactive and accept travelers discoveries.
I also an quite involved in tourism locally here in Suchitoto(a must see if coming to El Salvador).
Please feel free to ask me any questions about travelling in El Salvador, it is very satisfiying knowing that I may be able to show people the real El Salvador and the beauty of it's people.
Saludos from Suchitoto
Robert Broz

Thumbs up El Salvador is a great place to visit! - 03-10-2008, 04:08 PM

Robert, your post is so accurate. I have found that El Salvador remains totally undiscovered and yet it offers all that other Central American countries offer -- but without the crowds! I have visited Suchitoto and I love it. What a clean, nice, romantic town! The cobble stoned streets, the grounds of the art museum, the artisan shops, the fabulous restaurants, the history... -- I even loved the ferry we took from San Francisco Lempa. We stayed in a beautiful, 5 star hotel in Suchitoto and I hear there is another hotel that just opened on the town square right across from that beautiful church. The two things I love most about El Salvador are the people (they are absolutely the friendliest ever!) and the size of the country. When you travel with someone who knows the country, it is easy to get from one town to another very quickly and you can see so much in such a short period of time! Good luck with your promotions of Suchitoto -- it is a great town to visit!

Hey, welcome to the forum!

I have been to Suchitoto before, such a small quaint colonial town. I also like the lake that is nearby. Cant wait to visit again!

Hi Supervaca,
It really depends on what you are looking for in the way of a beach. For surfing the best beaches are Sunzal, El Zonte, Punta Roca and El Tunco. For swiming on the El Salvador coastline one must be very careful and a good swimmer as we have some very strong north bound undertows. My favorite beaches for enjoying the water and sun are El Tamarindo, you can find information at Tamirindos signature above, La Puntia at the end of the Costa del Sol and Playa El Espino a beautiful black sand beach that on weekdays is very desolated. For more information about hotels and restaurants on the beaches check out the site in my signature. If you need more details feel free to write.
Saludos form Suchitoto

Hi,
Most of El Salvador ('the saviour' in Spanish) is volcanic. The country has been racked by civil war and a succession of natural disasters which have left it physically devastated and psychologically traumatised.
