    Historical Places

    Pulau Bidong
From the late 1970's till 1991, Pulau Bidong was a camp for Vietnamese refugees fleeing from Communist persecution and handship.

    Masjid Abidin
This mosque was built without any pillars. The main entrance is partially blocked by a half-completed wall, thus making the building look like a gateway.

    Kota Lama Duyung
Built in 1920, this monument was originally used for religious classes and to teach Muslim children to read the Quran. It was believed that the building materials used included honey, egg white and rocks. After being destroyed by a flood in 1986, it was rebuilt in 1999 without any structural change.

    Bewah & Taat Cave
These caves are believed to have once been the abode of primitive men. The belief stemmed from the findings of an ancient human skeleton and a primitive stone hatchet. Archaeologists have uncovered artefacts such as kitchen utensils, axes and tools dating back to the Stone Age

    Bukit Besi
Bukit Besi is a former iron mining town which was closed in the early 1970's. The site where an old iron mine used to be was filled up with ground water to form the huge Lake Puteri.
